All About Who R.O.C.K. Solid Really Is!
We are a home schooling family of five and are now in our 17th year teaching our children at home. Our two oldest, David and Toni have graduated. David lives in town and manages a restaurant. Our daughter, Toni, is now in college at ORU in Tulsa OK. Our youngest, Patrick (11th grade) helps at conventions and our store intermittently depending on the time of year and the need. Before retiring from Wal-Mart, Nathan spent 19 years with that company. In January of 1999, he came "home" to take over this ever-growing company. I still teach Patrick at home and produce the catalog. I also assist Nathan in many areas at the store, making me a full time working mom. Therefore, dabbling in domestic upkeep is just a hobby that I occasionally indulge in.
We live here in North Florida, in the prettiest section of North Jacksonville. We're so close to Georgia we're sure we breathe their air.
We began R.O.C.K. Solid, under God's direction as a home based mail order company on May 10th, 1994. The idea was one that we had toyed with for years, and when Nathan's regular full time job with Wal-Mart unexpectedly shifted, the door opened wide to begin this adventure. Our first 4-page "cata-list" was stapled at the top corner and printed on neon colored paper so that your eyes hurt when you turned to page 2. But hey, you could always find it, right? We hope that we've made progress - we're sure you'll enjoy reading all 96 pages of our 2007/08 catalog, for there's something to be said for real newsprint.
We continue to grow by leaps and bounds and struggle happily with every turn. We've made new friendships as we've learned new things and , we've discovered talents in old friendships/relationships (i.e. this website and it's maintenance, design, and consultation from home schooling families we've known for years). Our store and mail order department employs many wonderful folks. Many are home schooling parents and in the summer we take on home schooling teenagers (who have a wonderful work ethic, by the way!) to help us through the busy season. Thanks to all of you who have helped us grow and who have prayed for us all along the way. It is always needed, welcomed, and very much appreciated.

A Note About The Sister: If you've received our catalog, or attended one of our local "How To Home School" classes, you might be wondering a little about the "sister" who seems to have it all together. She is a home schooling mom of three and she is for real! I often use her as an example, because she and I do things so differently. I like to use the contrast to show that it can be done, and done well, no matter what your teaching style. Although I tease her unmercifully sometimes about her organizational skills, I must admit here, in print, on the web, for all the world to see, that I truly admire her. And when I grow up, I want to be just like her. |
